Back in April, Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure launched Intergraph NetWorks – a flexible software suite that uses web services to provide secure, real-time access to location-based engineering and operational data and capabilities across the utility enterprise. Since then, the Intergraph NetWorks product development team has been creating a set of enhanced capabilities to better serve the needs of utility and communication providers.
I am pleased to announce the release of Intergraph NetWorks version 1.1, which continues to expand on the strategy of delivering information and capabilities for the enterprise of network operators. Inside Intergraph NetWorks 1.1, there are two key products: Intergraph NetWorks Foundation 1.1 and Intergraph NetWorks Portal 1.1.
Intergraph NetWorks Foundation 1.1 expands the scope of Intergraph G/Technology data and functionality delivered via web services, taking its capabilities beyond simple mapping. Intergraph NetWorks Portal 1.1 delivers richer capabilities for exploiting network models, as well as user interface enhancements. When combined, these two products bring many technical and operational capabilities to the utility enterprise.
Here’s a preview of how Intergraph NetWorks 1.1 benefits network operators
Enhanced Network Tracing Capabilities
From investigating problems to planning network operations, Intergraph NetWorks 1.1 provides wider access to Intergraph G/Technology’s tracing capabilities via a new trace service. This capability delivers essential insight by understanding the connectivity, status, and relationships between many of the features and assets that make up the utility network. This is something standard relational database queries of attributes or topological GIS traces do not provide.
Extended Service Scope for Intelligent Details and Schematic Views
Intergraph NetWorks 1.1 has extended the scope of its services and user interfaces to include support for interactive detail and schematic views for the dense assets and features associated with locations or facilities such as substations, switches, ducts, or cabinets. It enables users to view, query, and trace within detail and schematics views to quickly access advanced information and representations essential for many network workflows.
Added Standards to Image Tiling and Caching
Where Intergraph NetWorks 1.0 supported the OGC WMS standard and enabled map data layers (imagery and vectors) to be rendered and served to clients as map image tiles, Intergraph NetWorks 1.1 adds support for the OGC WMTS standard to deliver greater performance by using image tiling and caching. It publishes network facility and other map data as pre-rendered, geo-referenced map tiles for faster access and delivery of mapping under high loads and over poor or unreliable connections. Our patent-pending WMTS will always provide the latest information.
Improved User Interface
Intergraph NetWorks 1.1 delivers a responsive user interface (UI) that makes the tablet experience smoother. These enhancements include touch-enabled UI that supports gesture controls, consistent presentation across desktops and tablets, and the ability to use and navigate the network trace service and detail and schematics views.
Streamlined Administration and Portal Customization
Intergraph NetWorks 1.1 features a number of enhancements that streamline administration and improve portal customization, including a simple environment for validating all service configurations, programming examples to support further customization, and removing the need to separately edit web.config files.
