International Women’s Day: Celebrating women in geospatial

International Women’s Day is a great reason to celebrate women’s remarkable achievements and invaluable contributions across all fields, including the geospatial industry.

This day serves as a poignant reminder of the significant strides made toward gender equality while also highlighting the ongoing efforts needed to empower women in geospatial technology and beyond.

In geospatial science, women play pivotal roles in advancing innovation, research and applications. From pioneering cartographers to groundbreaking GIS analysts, women have continually broken barriers and reshaped the landscape of geospatial technology.

Women in geospatial

Hexagon knows the importance of women in the geospatial world, and at Hexagon’s Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial division, we’ve been actively sharing our experiences.

In addition, Begoña Verdejo, senior business development EMEA GTD for the division, has been an active member of the EUROGI Women+ in Geospatial Group. This initiative features a series of videos in which women in the geospatial field share their insights and experiences.

Commitment to inclusion

Despite advancements, women remain underrepresented in many sectors of the geospatial industry. International Women’s Day prompts reflection on the systemic challenges and biases that hinder gender diversity and inclusion. The day calls for collective action to dismantle these barriers and create a more equitable and inclusive environment, where women can thrive and contribute to their full potential. Fostering an environment that embraces diversity unlocks new insights, drives innovation and tackles complex challenges with creativity and ingenuity.

As we commemorate International Women’s Day in the geospatial community, let us reaffirm Hexagon’s commitment to gender equality and empowerment. Let us champion the achievements of women in geospatial technology, amplify their voices and advocate for equal opportunities at every level.

Together, we can create a future where women are recognized, valued and celebrated for their invaluable contributions to the geospatial industry and beyond.
