Hexagon is pleased to share the work of its partnership with the Chair of Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in 2024. Our collaboration with UPM began in 2022, making 2024 the third year of this successful collaboration.
The UPM community has a significant number of Hexagon product licenses – 1,194 covering GIS for EDU, IMAGINE Essentials and Remote Sensing for EDU with ERDAS IMAGINE.
UPM’s plans for the year included presentations of real cases of management of critical situations such as fires and floods and the use of digital twins in environmental studies. Already, the university had ERDAS IMAGINE classroom licenses for practice in topography, agronomy, roads and mines. Many licenses are also used for doctoral theses, master theses (TFM) and final degree theses (TFG). Some professors also use them for research and teaching.

New initiatives
On Women’s Day and trying to encourage future generations in inclusion and diversity, the university organized a seminar: Future generations specialized in earth observation.
The webinar led UPM to actively participate in the Geospatial Women’s Community, in which Hexagon actively participates, and it now has new female engineers: New initiative in the Geospatial community!! EUROGI Women in Geospatial – Spanish – Women in the geospatial sector
New collaborations
With this Chair, UPM has been a pioneer in this type of university-business collaboration in the transfer of tools that are being implemented in other universities, both nationally and internationally.
Finally, I would like to give you the good news that the Chair led to the mentorship of an intern student from the Higher Technical School of Engineers in Topography, Geodesy and Cartography who is now working with us at Hexagon.
