Curriculum highlights

As part of the Degree in Engineering of Geospatial Information Technologies, curriculum highlights include:

  • Introduction to Remote Sensing: Fundamentals of satellite imagery and ERDAS IMAGINE
  • Image Processing Techniques: Preprocessing, enhancement and analysis workflows
  • Land Use and Environmental Analysis: Monitoring urban growth, deforestation and vegetation health
  • Disaster Management: Risk assessment and mapping for flood and wildfire-prone areas
  • Custom Use Cases: Real-world projects tailored to industry needs, such as agricultural monitoring and climate change analysis

Industry collaboration

To support these classes, a dedicated practice area has been established, featuring advanced computing facilities and the latest version of ERDAS IMAGINE. Through individual and group projects, students analyze urban expansion, assess crop health and monitor environmental changes using satellite imagery.

Guest workshops and lectures led by Hexagon professionals expose students to leading industry practices and emerging trends. This partnership ensures that graduates gain not only technical expertise, but also a competitive edge in the job market.

Preparing the next generation

By integrating interactive, application-based learning into its curriculum, the Polytechnic University of Madrid is preparing students to meet the growing demand for geospatial professionals. This initiative demonstrates how academia and industry can work together to empower the next generation of experts — equipping them with the skills and confidence to tackle global challenges through innovative geospatial technologies.
