Hexagon’s 2023 recognitions in the Gartner® Hype Cycle™

In 2023, Hexagon was mentioned as a sample vendor in 14 Gartner Hype Cycle reports. Of those mentions, we believe seven are aligned with Hexagon’s Safety, Infrastructure & Geospatial division. We believe this recognition illustrates how our technologies and solutions improve the resilience and sustainability of the world’s critical services and infrastructure.

1. Hype Cycle for Oil and Gas, 2023

This Hype Cycle helps CIOs “understand which technologies to focus on in order to align their investments with strategic business goals.”

Hexagon is mentioned in the Geospatial Platform section.

Gartner stated, “Location and time are important items of information for contextualizing operational, transactional, mobile and sensor data.”

2. Hype Cycle for Public Safety and Law Enforcement, 2023

This Hype Cycle focuses on “insights relative to risk and rate of adoption for a range of technologies and approaches in public safety and law enforcement.”

Hexagon is mentioned in the Real-Time Incident Center as a Service section.

Gartner stated, “Service providers now offer real-time incident management as a service. Jurisdictions with earlier crime-focused capabilities will seek next-generation full incident management capability. Jurisdictions lacking resources for a command center have opportunities with as-a-service offerings.”

3. Hype Cycle for Smart City and Sustainability in China, 2023

This Hype Cycle is “designed to help CIOs in government and the urban ecosystem evaluate emerging trends and technologies in terms of their maturity and impacts smart city and sustainability initiatives.”

Hexagon is mentioned in the Smart City Transportation Strategy and Digital Twins of Government sections.

Gartner stated of the first, “A smart city transportation strategy can help transportation agencies in cities and regions collaborate with public and private sector stakeholders to address future mobility and transport opportunities.”

And of the second, “It is becoming increasingly important to visualize cross-jurisdiction impacts through a single and collaborative interface.”

4. Hype Cycle for Utility Industry IT, 2023

This Hype Cycle “reflects the modernization investments of the ‘digitalized utility,’ which focused on goals to improve operational excellence and customer experience.”

Hexagon is mentioned in the LiDAR, Geospatial Platform and Drones in Utilities sections.

Gartner stated of the first, “(LiDAR) can be used to perform mapping, surveying, site planning and asset inspections more safely, efficiently and more frequently than human workers.”

Of the second, “Asset-intensive organizations (especially those with spatially distributed assets) are expanding capabilities to manage and optimize spatial location data, which is essential for the optimization of an enterprise.”

And of the last, “Drones offer important benefits to utility field operations. They can perform inspection and other tasks safely, faster, more frequently and consistently than human workers, gathering more and better quality data.”

5. Hype Cycle for Smart City Technologies and Solutions, 2023

This Hype Cycle “focuses on the holistic ecosystem approach made possible by data exchanges and digital twin use cases.”

Hexagon is mentioned in the sections for Digital Twins of Government, Smart City Transportation Strategy and Building Information Modeling.

Gartner stated of the last, “Increases in regulations governing design, construction, operations and maintenance of facilities compounded by the number of roles involved in these activities require better means of managing and accessing information.”

6. Hype Cycle for Human Services in Government, 2023

This Hype Cycle “presents emerging and maturing technologies that are critical to the effective delivery of human services and social programs.”

Hexagon is mentioned in the Digital Twins of Government section.

Gartner stated, “These solutions are contributing to cost savings related to preventative maintenance, improved operations through better uptime and real-time decision-making support.”

7. Hype Cycle for Environmental Sustainability, 2023

This Hype Cycle focuses on “applying technologies to overcome environmental sustainability challenges enables enterprises to shift from ambition to action.”

Hexagon is mentioned in the Geospatial Platforms and Building Information Modeling sections.

Gartner stated of the first, “Geospatial platforms can support real-time modeling; visualize electrical, gas, and/or water and pipeline networks; model geological and surface feature relationships; and depict the relationship between assets and the environment.”

Of the second, “Stakeholders in facilities seek to reduce costly mistakes with BIM by enabling better access to more timely and accurate information.”
